
The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) will hold on November 29 a series of events dedicated to the 28th anniversary of the introduction of the Moldovan leu (MDL) into circulation.
In this regard, the President of the NBM, Octavian Armasu, emphasizes that the introduction of the national currency - the Moldovan leu - 28 years ago has become a part of our history along with other state attributes that define us as a sovereign and independent state. “The national currency is not only an attribute of the state; it plays a very important role in the economy. Improving the quality of the national currency and the level of use of non-cash payments is one of the strategic objectives of the NBM,” said the head of the National Bank. It is planned that this year the start of the celebration of the anniversary of the introduction of the Moldovan leu into circulation will be given by a solemn event for the launch of commemorative and commemorative coins, which will be held at the National Library of Moldova. The event will be broadcast live on the NBM website and its pages in social networks (Facebook and Youtube). Also on Monday, an exhibition will be open at the National Bank Museum from 13.00 to 17.00, where visitors will be able to get acquainted with the history of the national currency. In order to comply with sanitary standards, groups of 10 people will be allowed access; visitors must submit a vaccination certificate or negative test result for Covid-19, except for children. All participants must be wearing masks. The visit will take 30 minutes. Those interested can register at edufin@bnm.md until November 28, 2021 (inclusive). On the same day, students of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences of the State University of Moldova will take part in a training seminar “How money gets into circulation”.
