The weighted average interest rate on new loans in lei in Moldova reached a new historical minimum, amounting to 6.78% per annum in August 2021.

At the same time, in comparison with the previous month, it decreased by 0.11 percentage points, and in comparison with August of the previous year, it decreased by 1.02 percentage points. It should be noted that the previous historical minimum of the weighted average interest rate on new loans in lei in Moldova was 6.79% per annum and was registered in June 2021. As InfoMarket agency was informed in the National Bank of Moldova, in August 2021, loans to individuals were provided at an average rate 5.44% (-0.11 p.p., compared to the previous month; -1.61 p.p. compared to August 2020), legal entities- 8.23% (+0.17 p.p. and -0.12 p.p., respectively), and for individuals engaged in entrepreneurial activity - 8.62% (+0.51 p.p. and -0.51 p.p., respectively). The volume of loans in lei granted to individuals in August 2021 decreased by 3.6% compared to the previous month, amounting to 1 billion 458.3 million lei. From the point of view of the purpose of the loans provided, the largest share was made up of consumer loans (64%), which were issued at an average rate of 4.57% per annum (-0.23 p.p. compared to the previous month; -2.5 p.p. compared to August 2020). Average interest rate on loans for buying real estate in August this year amounted to 6.72% and increased by 0.05 percentage points, compared with the previous month, and also increased by 0.14 percentage points, compared with August 2020. It should be noted that 98.4% of the total volume of mortgage loans and 99.8% of consumer loans were issued in lei. Loans in national currency with a maturity of 2 to 5 years were most in demand in the reporting month and were provided at an average interest rate of 6.34% (legal entities - 8.53%, individuals - 4.28%, and individuals engaged in entrepreneurial activity - 8.49%). Herewith, the highest average interest rate on loans in the national currency for legal entities was on loans with a maturity of up to 1 month, amounting to 9.96% per annum, for individuals - on loans for a period of more than 5 years, amounting to 6.87% per annum, and for individuals engaged in entrepreneurial activity, on loans for up to 1 month, amounting to 13% per annum. The lowest average interest rate on loans in lei for individuals was the rate on loans for a period of 2 to 5 years, which amounted to 4.28% per annum, for legal entities - the rate on loans for a period of 1-3 months, which was 7.7%, and for individuals engaged in entrepreneurial activity, the rate on loans for a period of 3-6 months, which amounted to 7.98%. // 07.10.2021 — InfoMarket.
