The EBRD is ready to provide Moldova with 25 million euros for the implementation of a project for the disposal of solid waste with a total cost of 103 million euros.

As noted in the materials of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Board of Directors of the EBRD plans to make a decision on the issue of granting a loan to Moldova for this project at a meeting on December 8. These EBRD funds are intended to finance priority investments to improve solid waste management services across the country, create integrated solid waste management systems in participating waste management regions, in line with Moldova's National Waste Management Strategy and the country's commitments under the Association Agreement with the EU. The project is an important step towards sustainable solid waste management in Moldova. The EBRD loan will be provided in several tranches. The first tranche is expected to be released upon signing the loan agreement and will co-finance investments in Waste Management Region 5, which includes Ungheni, Nisporeni and Calarasi districts. Subsequent tranches will be used to finance other waste management regions that will be proposed by the Moldovan government and supported by feasibility studies. It is noted that the total cost of the project "Solid Waste in Moldova" will amount to 103 million euros. The EBRD loan will be complemented by a € 25 million loan from the European Investment Bank. It is also expected that the project will be co-financed through loans and grants from other international donors. Earlier it was reported that the total cost of creating a solid waste management infrastructure in Moldova is estimated at 200 million euros, and the European Investment Bank is ready to provide our country with a loan of up to 100 million euros, with the first tranche amounting to 25 million euros. In general, the project "Solid waste in Moldova" will allow to modernize and develop regional systems and installations for the management and processing of solid waste in the Republic of Moldova.
