Moldova is preparing to start a dialogue on joining the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA).
The Central Bank said this, noting that the National Bank of Moldova, along with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and other state institutions, recently met with representatives of the European Payments Council (EPC) to start a dialogue on Moldova's accession to the SEPA zone. In this context, Moldova and the European Payments Council (EPC) have agreed on cooperation, and as a first step it was proposed to organize a seminar on the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). Thus, the relevant institutions in our country will have the opportunity to better understand the criteria for accession and the steps to be taken. The meeting participants got acquainted with the main characteristics, possibilities and advantages of the four SEPA schemes for making transfers in euros (SEPA Credit Transfer, SEPA Direct Debit Core, SEPA Direct Debit B2B, SEPA Instant Credit Transfer) and the conditions that the relevant authorities in our country must fulfill, so that the SEPA geographic area includes Moldova. The National Bank, taking on the role of catalyst and representative of the local financial community in the process of Moldova's inclusion in the SEPA zone, declared its openness to close cooperation with local authorities. SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) is an initiative of the European banking industry, supported by the European Commission and the European Central Bank, which aims to create an integrated euro payment area and ensure that cross-border euro payments are as simple and efficient as the internal ones. The National Bank stated that it counts on the joint efforts of the Moldovan authorities to achieve the goal of joining the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). // 24.09.2021 - InfoMarket.
