
The European Union will continue to support reforms in the banking sector of Moldova
This was stated by the Ambassador of the European Union, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko during a meeting with the President of the National Bank of Moldova Octavian Armasu and First Deputy President of the NBM Vladimir Munteanu. The meeting took place in the context of the completion of the mandate in our country of Peter Michalko. According to the Central Bank, during the dialogue, officials discussed macro-financial developments, the importance of reforms in the financial and banking sector in recent years and the need to maintain a further approach to reform, an attractive investment framework that facilitates expanding access to financial services, as well as new goals of the Central Bank, etc. The President of the National Bank highly appreciated the ongoing support from the EU, rendered to Moldova for the modernization of the financial and banking system, noting the importance of the efforts of the Central Bank to obtain such support in the future. Octavian Armasu also touched upon the main goal of the NBM to strengthen the financial and non-banking sector after transferring some powers to regulate and supervise it from the NCFM in the coming years. In turn, Ambassador Peter Michalko noted the EU's readiness to continue to be close to Moldova in the process of preserving and continuing reforms. Peter Michalko stressed the importance of progress in this regard in the banking sector as a key prerequisite for further development, which has a decisive socio-economic impact on the country. In this context, the European diplomat noted the importance of preserving the independence of the NBM to ensure financial stability. The discussions of the parties also concerned the fulfillment of the obligations assumed by Moldova under the Association Agreement with the European Union, which in the long term will benefit all citizens of our country.// 03.08.2021 — InfoMarket
