The weighted average interest rate on new loans in lei (MDL) in Moldova reached a new historical minimum, amounting to 6.79% per annum in June 2021.

At the same time, versus the previous month, it decreased by 0.02 percentage points, and versus June of the previous year - decreased by 1.37 percentage points. It should be noted that the previous historical minimum of the weighted average interest rate on new loans in lei in Moldova was 6.81% per annum and was registered in May 2021. As InfoMarket agency was informed at the National Bank of Moldova, in June 2021, loans to individuals were provided at an average rate of 5.5% (-0.07 p.p., compared to the previous month; -2.11 p.p. compared to June 2020), to legal entities – at an average rate of 8.02% (-0.18 p.p. and -0.42 p.p., respectively), and to individuals engaged in entrepreneurial activity - 8.08% (-0.88 p.p. and -1.62 p.p., respectively). The volume of loans in lei granted to individuals in June 2021 increased by 7.7% compared to the previous month, amounting to 1 billion 434.7 million lei. In terms of the purpose of the loans provided, the largest share accounted for consumer loans (64.4%), which were issued at an average rate of 4.83% per annum (-0.16 p.p. compared to the previous month; -2.85 p.p.), compared to June 2020). Average interest rate on loans for real estate purchase in June of this year amounted to 6.39% and increased by 0.03 percentage points, compared to the previous month, but decreased by 0.49 percentage points, compared to June 2020. It should be noted that 97.7% of the total the volume of mortgage loans and 99.8% of consumer loans were issued in lei. Loans in national currency with a maturity of 2 to 5 years were most in demand in the reporting month and were provided at an average interest rate of 6.38% (to legal entities - 8.07%, individuals - 4.55%, and individuals practicing entrepreneurial activity - 8.07%). At the same time, the highest average interest rate on loans in the national currency to legal entities was on loans with a maturity of up to 1 month, amounting to 9.54% per annum, to individuals - on loans with a maturity of 1-2 years - 6.99 % per annum, and to individuals engaged in entrepreneurial activity, also on loans for a period of 1-2 years - 9.17% per annum. The lowest average interest rate on loans in lei to individuals was the rate on loans for a period of 2 to 5 years, which amounted to 4.55% per annum, to legal entities - the rate on loans for a period of more than 5 years, which was 7.48%, and to individuals engaged in entrepreneurial activities, the rate on loans also for a period exceeding 5 years, which amounted to 7.79%. // 28.07.2021 – InfoMarket
