The World Bank will provide Moldova with an additional loan of 24.8 million euros within the framework of the Emergency Response to COVID-19 project.

This was announced by the Ministry of Finance, noting that the Moldovan delegation has already held negotiations with the World Bank to obtain this additional funding to support the health sector in the procurement of vaccines against COVID-19. In particular, representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the Presidential Administration discussed with representatives of the World Bank a draft financing agreement between Moldova and the International Development Association (IDA), a member of the World Bank Group, for the Emergency Response Project for COVID-19 - 2nd additional funding ”. The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection through a special unit created for this purpose, and the deadline for the project is April 30, 2023. All COVID-19 vaccines, whose purchase will be financed by the World Bank, must meet the standards approved by the bank: (a) be approved by three regulatory bodies (including the issuance of an emergency use authorization in three regions); or (b) be prequalified by the World Health Organization and obtain regulatory approval (including authorization for emergency use); or (c) meet other criteria as may be agreed in writing between Moldova and the International Development Association. After approval of additional financing by the World Bank Board of Directors and completion of all necessary internal procedures in accordance with the Law on International Agreements, the financial agreement with the World Bank will be signed and internal procedures will go through to enter into force. It should be noted that at the end of April 2020, the World Bank approved a loan for Moldova in the amount of 52.9 million euros, allocated through the International Development Association for the implementation of emergency measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic by strengthening the country's national health system and reducing social risks. // 22.03.2021 — InfoMarket.
