This was announced by the World Bank Regional Director for Moldova, Belarus and Ukraine Arup Banerji and the Director of the WB Office in Moldova Anna Akhalkatsi during an online meeting with the Acting Prime Minister of Moldova Aureliu Ciocoi, with whom the current and new WB projects for Moldova were discussed. Aureliu Ciocoi noted that currently 12 projects financed by the World Bank are being implemented in Moldova, totaling more than $ 600 million. The WB representatives informed the current Prime Minister that the organization's specialists, together with representatives of the Ministry of Finance, are working on the completion of 3 new financing projects for a total amount more than $ 80 million. In particular, the parties discussed the project "Emergency response to COVID-19 in Moldova", which provides additional funding to support the COVID-19 Immunization Plan at the national level by purchasing vaccines and strengthening the vaccination infrastructure. The second project under discussion was the project "Water supply and sewerage security in Moldova", which envisages large investments in water supply infrastructure, construction of sewerage systems in 100 schools and 25 medical institutions, development of institutional capacity of 5 operators, etc. Another project aims to provide a third additional funding in the form of a grant for the implementation of the Competitive Agriculture project aimed at consolidating the country's agri-food sector. During the conversation, the parties reviewed the political situation in Moldova and Aureliu Ciocoi expressed hope that in the near future solutions will be found to approve the government, whose mandate will unlock a number of investment projects and vital reforms to overcome social and economic problems. “The current government will do everything possible, within its powers, to ensure that the future government is ready to launch an extensive reform process,” said Aureliu Ciocoi. He noted that one of the urgent needs of Moldova is the reform of the education system: “It is necessary to invest in the skills of future generations so that we have promising results in the medium and long term,” he said. Arup Banerji reaffirmed the World Bank's readiness to support through its programs the achievement of Moldova's national priorities, including education reform. // 11.03.2021 — InfoMarket.
