The National Bank of Moldova urged the citizens of the country not to disclose their bank card details to anyone, even to representatives of banks.

In particular, the Central Bank drew public attention to the fact that any information about bank cards is private and should not be transferred to anyone, even to representatives of banks. The warning was issued by the NBM in the context of sending false messages in communication applications such as Viber, WatsApp, Telegram, etc. on behalf of the Central Bank. The National Bank warns that such messages are sent by impostors trying to get information about bank cards from uninformed persons. In case of disclosure, the information can be used by fraudsters to steal money from a card account. The NBM emphasizes that storing money on a card is a safe option, subject to the terms of its use, and it is important that card data are not disclosed to third parties. In order to avoid unauthorized use of cards, the National Bank recommends that citizens, if prospective bank employees contact them and request card details, immediately interrupt the call, call the number indicated on its back and inform the issuing bank. Additional recommendations on the safe use of the card can be found on the website of the National Bank of Moldova (https://www.bnm.md/ru/content/rekomendacii-po-povysheniyu-bezopasnosti-pri-ispolzovanii-platezhnoy-kartochki). // 03.02.2021 — InfoMarket.
