The former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banca de Economii said this in an interview with TV8, stressing that neither he nor his relatives were the beneficiaries of the bank robberies in 2014, and also refuting the information that during his work at BEM this banking institution received money from the National Bank. According to Ilan Shor, on the contrary, the situation in BEM was stable and certain work was being done to patch up the huge financial holes left by the previous leadership. The former head of BEM denied statements that in early November 2014 the National Bank allegedly transferred 4.5 billion lei to BEM accounts. Ilan Shor said that the first money from the National Bank came in December 2014, when he was already removed from the management of the bank. Moreover, under him, no one even asked the National Bank for financial assistance, since the position of BEB was stable. “During my time of governing, not a single MDL came from the state, and I never asked the state for money. We handled the situation ourselves well. All the money was paid to the depositors. Yes, it was difficult, but we managed to do this. I never said that we needed government assistance. We set out to make our own money to fill the holes others made. And everything was fine,” Ilan Shor said. He noted that it was precisely the politicians who decided to transfer 14 billion lei from the National Bank to commercial banks in 2014 that committed the notorious bank theft. “There was a huge hole in the bank that we had to take control of. I had to issue loans to my enterprises in order to close these holes so that the bank's balance sheet was normal.Suddenly the state came and decided to liquidate the banks. This was the decision of the political class, because the political class decided to hide its old holes. And they did it,” Ilan Shor said. He also claims that neither he nor his relatives were the beneficiaries of the bank robbery in 2014. “The real robbery was carried out at the expense of the so-called emergency loan from the National Bank, guaranteed by the government, which no one requested. I do not know where the money from the state guarantees went, I did not control it. This was controlled by the National Bank, the Ministry of Finance, and this gang that slandered me, the gang that caused a billion euros damage to Moldova,” stressed Ilan Shor. According to him, those who put pressure on the court in his case want to blame him at all costs in order to avoid responsibility for the crimes themselves. Ilan Shor posted on his social media page documents proving that not a single MDL from the state aid was transferred to the accounts of BEM, Banca Sociala and Unibank before the introduction of a special department. The documents also show that Ion Ropot, appointed as a special administrator of BEM, applied to the National Bank with a request to allocate money. This happened right on the day of his appointment - November 27, 2014. And on the same day, Ilan Shor was removed from his post as head of the BEM Administrative Council. “This money was controlled by officials of the National Bank and the Financial Stability Committee, who decided to distribute it to BEM depositors, although they did not ask for it.
