Moldova intends to expand exports to India, attract new Indian investment, and implement joint infrastructure development projects

This was discussed at a meeting held between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and the new Indian Ambassador to Moldova, based in Bucharest, Manoj Kumar Mohapatra. The parties discussed new opportunities for cooperation and prospects for intensifying economic and investment ties between Moldova and India. Alexandru Munteanu noted that attracting foreign investment into the Moldovan economy remains a priority for the government and encouraged Indian companies to explore sectors with high growth potential. Currently, 74 companies with Indian capital are registered in Moldova. The officials emphasized the need to leverage the potential for cooperation in the energy and agricultural sectors, expand bilateral trade, and launch joint projects, particularly focused on infrastructure development in Moldova. Another important topic of discussion was access for Moldovan agricultural products to the Indian market. In February 2025, Moldovan apples gained free access to the Indian market, one of the largest consumer markets in the world, previously closed to domestic producers. Cooperation in education was also noted: more than 1,260 Indian students are studying medicine at Moldovan universities. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Moldovan exports to India in 2025, compared to 2024, decreased by 82.2% to $0.26 million, while Indian imports to Moldova increased by 8.6% to $80.3 million. As a result, Moldova's negative trade balance with India exceeded $80 million, an increase of 10.5% compared to the previous year. // 17.02.2026 — InfoMarket.
