The World Bank will provide technical support to the National Bureau of Statistics in preparing statistical data on income and living conditions in accordance with EU standards

This was discussed during a meeting between the leadership of the National Bureau of Statistics and representatives of the World Bank, specialists in the field of poverty and equality in the Europe and Central Asia region, Ambar Narayan and Federica Marzo. Discussions focused on the support that the World Bank will provide to the National Bureau of Statistics over the next two years as part of a technical assistance project aimed at strengthening institutional capacity in the collection, processing, and analysis of statistical data on income and living conditions in accordance with EU standards. These data are important for the development of evidence-based public policies, including for assessing the impact of reforms on welfare, social integration and cohesion, poverty reduction, decent employment, and investment in less developed regions. The planned assistance will focus on aspects related to the preparation and implementation of the EU-SILC survey, which is a key tool for monitoring living conditions, inequality, and poverty, as well as ensuring the international comparability of local statistics. Other topics discussed at the meeting included updating the existing methodology for measuring absolute poverty in order to harmonize it with the latest World Bank recommendations and international best practices. The parties emphasized the importance of ensuring the quality and consistency of time series, as well as developing statistical infrastructure in parallel with the modernization of data collection, processing, and presentation processes and methods. The assistance project is funded by the Multilateral Donor Trust Fund of the Moldova - Growth, Resilience, and Opportunity for Well-being (M-GROW) program, managed by the World Bank. // 03.02.2026 – InfoMarket.
