Moldova is successfully implementing with the World Bank support the “Modernization and Improvement of Rehabilitation Services” project with a total cost exceeding $51 million
This was discussed during a meeting between the leadership of the Ministry of Health and a delegation from the World Bank, as well as leading experts in the field of health care and economics. The visit took place within the framework of the “Modernization and Improvement of Rehabilitation Services” project, which is currently in the active implementation stage. Discussions focused on the development of integrated medical rehabilitation services. The priority topic was the expansion of rehabilitation services in hospitals through investment in specialized medical equipment, as well as through training and strengthening interdisciplinary teams. The project is financed by a loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, supplemented by external grants totaling more than $51 million. The Ministry of Health and the World Bank have confirmed their joint commitment to the effective and sustainable implementation of the project with the aim of improving the quality of medical services and the functional recovery of patients. It was previously reported that a key element of the project is to ensure timely treatment of strokes and heart attacks in the critical first hours, as well as to provide patients with access to rehabilitation services that will allow them to return to work and family life. In addition, the project will support key primary health care and community-level activities to raise awareness of non-communicable diseases and prevent catastrophic events. The project will contribute to the consolidation and implementation of the government's new vision for rehabilitation services and support the regionalization of care delivery. Moldova's plans to improve post-stroke and cardiovascular care services, as well as rehabilitation services for vulnerable groups, will enhance human capital and ensure that citizens and families across the country can access high-quality care. This will also be achieved by strengthening digital services so that patients in hard-to-reach areas can receive medical care without having to travel long distances. // 30.01.2026 — InfoMarket
