The European Commission will allocate an additional grant of 107 million euros to Moldova for the country's energy sustainability and independence

As reported by the press service of the parliament, in particular, this will be provided for by an amendment to the Financing Agreement between the Government of Moldova and the European Commission regarding the Contract for the implementation of the sectoral reform, the start of negotiations and signing of which was approved by the Committee on Foreign Affairs and European Integration. The agreement itself was signed on January 31, 2025. As noted, thanks to the amendment, the grant will increase from 67 million to 174 million euros. This is budget support of 167 million euros and additional support in the form of grants through the Secretariat of the Energy Community and GIZ, as well as technical assistance of 7 million euros. The grant funding will be used to implement reforms that contribute to the energy sustainability and independence of Moldova. The money will be provided in two parts after a number of general conditions are met. These include: satisfactory progress in implementing the Moldova Energy Strategy and maintaining its credibility and relevance or subsequent policies; maintaining stable, credible and relevant macroeconomic policies or progress made in restoring fundamental balance; satisfactory progress in implementing reforms to improve public financial management, including domestic revenue mobilization, and maintaining the relevance and credibility of the reform program; satisfactory progress in providing the public with accessible, timely and comprehensive budget information and a sound budgetary framework.
