Inflation in Moldova will gradually return to the target range by the end of the year, which will help maintain macroeconomic balance and confidence in monetary policy – NBM
This opinion was expressed by the President of the National Bank of Moldova Anca Dragu, speaking at the international conference "Economic Trends 2025", organized by the Patronage of European Business Women (PEFA) in Bucharest. According to the NBM, the meeting brought together officials of central financial institutions and representatives of the economic environment from Romania and Moldova to exchange ideas and find solutions to economic problems. At the official opening of the event, the President of the NBM emphasized that Moldova is going through a period of profound transformation, reaffirming its commitment to European integration and economic modernization. "Moldova has reappeared on the world map, next to the big European family," Anca Dragu said, emphasizing the commitment of the Moldovan authorities to reforms and modernization. The head of the National Bank also spoke about the inflation trajectory, specifying that the forecasts indicate its gradual return to the target range by the end of the year, which will allow maintaining macroeconomic balance and confidence in the monetary policy. An important point in the speech of the NBM President was the recent admission of Moldova to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) - a great achievement for the national economy, which facilitates fast and inexpensive transfers between Moldova and the European space. Anca Dragu also noted the success of the national instant payment system MIA, launched a year ago, which reflects the dynamism of the digitalization of financial services in Moldova. Today, every third bank employee in Moldova makes payments through MIA. "The National Bank of Moldova continues to encourage the use of digital payments, and MIA is an important step towards creating a modern, efficient and accessible financial system for everyone. The rapid implementation of this system by citizens and companies reflects a clear desire to modernize and get closer to European standards," Anca Dragu emphasized. At the same time, the NBM President supported the promotion of gender equality in the economy, encouraging the participation of women in leadership positions and reducing the wage gap. Anca Dragu emphasized that equal opportunities are a condition for sustainable economic development. According to her, in this regard, the NBM recently launched the project "FinanciarELE - Community of Women Leaders", which supports the development of women's financial and leadership skills through education, mentoring and professional support. "Equality is not only an ideal, but also a condition for a functional, innovative and sustainable economy," the NBM President concluded. As previously reported, annual inflation in Moldova in February 2025 amounted to 8.6%, which is 0.5 percentage points lower than in January, but is still above the upper limit of the range of ±1.5 percentage points from the target of 5%. The Executive Committee of the National Bank of Moldova, at its latest meeting on monetary policy, maintained the base rate applied to the main short-term monetary policy operations at 6.5% per annum.. // 31.03.2025 — InfoMarket
