The Moldovan authorities will decide for themselves whether to allocate part of the 1.9 billion euros provided by the European Union to the Transnistrian region - Siegfried Muresan

This was stated by the MEP from Romania, co-chair of the Moldova-EU Parliamentary Association Committee, and co-rapporteur of the European Parliament on the 1.9 billion euros Economic Growth Plan for Moldova in an exclusive interview with TVR Moldova in Brussels. Siegfried Muresan noted that in general, in order to gain access to this money, the Moldovan government will first submit a reform plan to the European Commission. "In the coming weeks, the Growth Plan for Moldova will be submitted to the European Commission, which is determined to approve it quickly, and within a few weeks, the Moldovan authorities will receive preliminary funding in the amount of 300 million euros. This will happen in late April - early May," he said. The MEP specified that after that, twice a year, in June and December, the Moldovan authorities will present reform plans, and the European Commission will make payments, twice a year. I think that the preliminary financing will come now, in the spring, and in the summer, around July-August, the first tranche will come," said Siegfried Muresan. He specified that if certain reforms are not implemented on time, the European Commission will make a partial payment, and the state will have 6 months to implement reforms and unblock the money. When asked whether the Transnistrian region will be able to receive these funds, Siegfried Muresan replied that the Moldovan authorities themselves decide how to implement this Growth Plan. "The European Union will never impose anything. The EU wants to help all Moldovan citizens, regardless of whether they live on the left or right bank of the Dniester, whether they speak Romanian or another language at home," he said. The MEP specified that if the current government loses political power, European legislation, European rules, as adopted, must be respected so that the money from this growth plan reaches Moldova. "Whenever there is a government in Moldova that respects the law, European commitments, the EU will support it, the money will come. If one day a government comes to Moldova that turns its back on the EU, then the European Commission will not be able to make payments to Moldova," Siegfried Muresan said. In early March, the European Parliament approved the Growth Plan for Moldova with funding of 1.9 billion euros. This is the largest allocation of funds by the European Union since Moldova gained independence, and it will be used to support our country in 2025-2027. The EU is expected to provide up to 385 million euros in grants and 1.5 billion euros in loans. These loans will be highly concessional, with long repayment periods and favourable interest rates. Repayments will be subject to strict conditions on achieving the reforms set out in the agreed Reform Programme.//26.03.2025 – InfoMarket.
