Moldovan government says Russia is once again dealing an economic blow to Moldova

In a government statement regarding the restrictions imposed by Russia on Moldovan carriers, the government said that this decision is unilateral, strikes a blow to Moldovan carriers and clearly demonstrates Russia's negative attitude and desire to harm the Moldovan economy. It is noted at the same time that the Russian side took this decision in conditions when it constantly refused technical negotiations and ignored previously reached agreements. “The Russian Federation does not fulfill its obligations and continues to use trade relations as an instrument of political pressure, which contradicts public statements of “sympathy” for the Moldovan people. This decision affects 115 carriers holding the relevant permits and also affects exporters who cooperate with them. As a result, Moldovan economic agents will be forced to reorient to other markets - where there is predictability and compliance with rules,” the government said. It is noted that in order to expand and diversify exports, Moldova has intensified cooperation with other markets and is strengthening alternative routes through the European Union, Caucasus and Central Asia, so that Moldovan companies do not depend on arbitrary political decisions. One example is the Road Freight Transport Liberalization Agreement with the EU, effective June 2022, which provides access to a predictable market. The government assured that the Moldovan authorities will continue defending the interests of the Moldovan companies and seeking alternative solutions for economic agents, including partnerships with other countries and international organizations. As a reminder, Moldova is included in the list of countries whose carriers are banned from entering Russia. Since September 2022, this list includes EU countries, Norway, Ukraine and the UK. The ban applies to bilateral transportation and transit transportation, as well as transportation from or to the territory of a third state. Thus, cargo delivery will be carried out with the transshipment of goods to trucks registered in Russia and Belarus. At the same time, April 24, Russia updates the list of goods, the transportation of which is not covered by the ban. The following groups of goods are excluded from it: cocoa and cocoa products, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, tobacco and industrial tobacco substitutes, alternative tobacco products. // 28.03.2025 - InfoMarket
