Moldova has an opportunity to turn climate problems into innovative solutions for economic growth
This was stated by Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Doina Nistor during a meeting with Jan Dusik, Deputy Director General of the European Commission's Directorate General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA), with whom she discussed Moldova's economic future in the context of European integration and green transition. She noted that Moldovan SMEs need support in order to meet ESG (environment, social, governance) criteria and reduce carbon emissions. Doina Nistor emphasized that the economic development and the adaptation to the European climate policy go hand in hand, and we have the opportunity to turn the climate problems into innovative solutions for economic growth. Carbon pricing mechanisms and carbon border adjustment mechanisms (CBAM) are an opportunity to bring our industry in line with European standards, she said. The recently adopted Green Industrial Pact can help improve competitiveness through decarbonization, while financing and investment mechanisms can help mobilize private capital for the transition to a green economy. There are also plans to transpose EU rules on carbon pricing and simplify ESG reporting. Models from countries such as Lithuania, which have successfully implemented carbon pricing policies, are also set to be implemented. “The transition to a sustainable economy is not only a climate goal, but also an opportunity for economic growth, attracting investment and opening up European markets. Moldova is making this commitment as part of its European integration,” the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization stressed. // 01.04.2025 - InfoMarket
