UNDP Moldova and the Ministry of Energy will provide $100,000 grants to create the first renewable energy communities
As reported by the Ministry of Energy, in particular, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Moldova, within the framework of the project "Sustainable Communities through Women's Empowerment", announced the launch of a grant competition for piloting the first renewable energy communities in Moldova. The competition is held in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and is aimed at supporting local initiatives aimed at improving energy management and increasing energy sustainability at the local level by strengthening the capacity of participants in this area. Within the framework of this competition, UNDP Moldova plans to select 2 civil society organizations to pilot the concept of renewable energy communities. These organizations will receive a grant of $100,000 each to mobilize potential members interested in creating an energy community, as well as to provide technical assistance throughout the process of training, registration and equipment. The project implementation period will be 18 months. The purpose of this grant program is to train non-governmental organizations with experience in the energy sector to pilot the concept of energy communities. The activities will focus on: developing the internal capacity of selected NGOs to support the creation and implementation of renewable energy communities; organizing awareness-raising and mobilizing campaigns for local actors interested in participating in the creation of such communities; providing technical support and mentoring for registration and equipping with the necessary equipment (photovoltaic systems, smart meters, batteries for energy storage, etc.). According to the recent amendments to the Law on the Promotion of the Use of Energy from Renewable Sources, “renewable energy communities” are autonomous organizations controlled by partners or members located near renewable energy projects with the aim of providing economic, social and environmental benefits to the community. They may include individuals, homeowners’ associations, non-profit organizations, small and medium-sized enterprises or local authorities. The application deadline is February 5.// 20.01.2025 — InfoMarket
