World Bank maintains Moldova's GDP growth forecast for 2025 and 2026 at 3.9% and 4.5%, respectively

This follows from the latest issue of the World Bank's Global Economic Prospects for January 2025. At the same time, at the end of 2024, the WB experts expect the Moldovan economy to grow at the level of 2.8%, which is by 0.6 p.p. more than the indicator forecasted in the Global Economic Prospects report in June 2024 (2.2%), but repeats the new WB forecast made in the WB report on the economy of the Europe and Central Asia region in October 2024 (2.8%). It should be noted that in the June 2024 Global Economic Prospects report, the WB reduced the forecast of Moldova's GDP growth in 2024 by 2 p.p. - from 4.2% to 2.2%, and in 2025 - by 0.2 p.p. – from 4.1% to 3.9%, forecasting an economic growth of 4.5% in 2026. At the same time, in the new report of October 2024, the World Bank increased the forecast of Moldova's GDP growth in 2024 by 0.6 p.p. - from 2.2% to 2.8%, but kept the forecast of this indicator for Moldova in 2025 and 2026 at the level of 3.9% and 4.5%, respectively. As reported by the National Bureau of Statistics, Moldova's GDP in January-September 2024 amounted to 233 billion 129 million lei, increasing by 0.6% compared to the same period of 2023. The final data for 2024 are not yet available. According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, Moldova's GDP was expected to grow by 2.5% in 2024.
