Moldovan Prime Minister discusses energy sector situation and possibilities of additional support with external partners

As reported by the government press service, in particular, Dorin Recean and Moldova's development partners analyzed on Thursday the problems caused by the situation in the energy sector and their impact on the economy and citizens, with a special focus on the Transnistrian region. The Prime Minister thanked the partners for the consistent assistance provided to our country, including during the period when Russia stopped supplying natural gas to the Transnistrian region. The interlocutors discussed ways of supporting citizens and companies in the short term and promoting energy security for the entire region in the long term. They also discussed a list of needs for external assistance intended to support both Moldovan citizens and state institutions in order to strengthen the energy and economic sustainability of our country. Dorin Recean informed the development partners about the measures already taken by the Moldovan authorities, noting the support provided to residents of the security zone affected by the power outages. "Moldova will continue to provide assistance to the residents of the region, as well as to make efforts to maintain a dialogue with the Tiraspol administration. If a real mechanism for gas supplies is needed, we are ready to provide it," the Prime Minister said. At the same time, the energy compensations offered to citizens on the right bank of the Dniester, as well as the compensation program for entrepreneurs, were mentioned. The Prime Minister emphasized that in the long term, it is extremely important to improve energy efficiency and increase the share of renewable energy sources. For their part, the international partners expressed their readiness to support both the authorities and citizens in the short and long term in overcoming this situation. Currently, the possibilities of contributing to increasing the size of the energy vulnerability reduction Fund are being discussed.// 16.01.2025 — InfoMarket.
