Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean urged farmers to engage in dialog, noting that only at the negotiating table, solutions can be found
At the same time, he emphasized that the government always supports the farmers. Prime Minister recalled that the farmers asked the authorities to compensate the losses, and the government allocated 200 million lei to them: 100 million lei in July and another 100 million lei from the Intervention Fund in September. The farmers asked for a special law, following the Romanian model, and the parliament adopted such a special law. The farmers asked for debt restructuring, and the normative framework was elaborated in such a way that the debts would not be collected within 6 months. The head of the government stressed that now the farmers are demanding that the debts not only for the current year, but also for the previous years be included in the deferment, and that they be exempted from payments to fertilizer suppliers. But this could lead to the collapse of the whole system, as no one will pay the bills. Dorin Recean emphasized that in the last 4 years, subsidies in agriculture amounted to 7 billion lei - the largest amount since the country's independence. “However, it is not enough to just increase funding to cover losses, serious changes are needed so that farmers stop suffering losses. Let's work together to find solutions. But, I repeat, this is only possible through dialog, at the negotiating table. And I appeal to everyone: let's not engage in politics to the detriment of farmers' needs,” emphasized Dorin Recean. // 20.09.2024 – InfoMarket
