These are the data of the published annual study of the National Bureau of Statistics "Wages and Labor Cost in 2023". It is reported that the average monthly nominal net salary amounted to 10372.1 lei, which is 16.5% (1472.5 lei) more than in 2022; the average monthly labor costs per employee amounted to 15252.7 lei, which is 16.6% (2167.6 lei) more than in 2022; the number of employees at the end of 2023 was 733.3 thousand people, which is 0.5% (3.7 thousand people) more than at the end of 2022; the average headcount of employees was 626.3 thousand people, which is 0.4% more than in 2022; at the end of 2023, there were 28.8 thousand vacancies, which was 3.8% of the total number of jobs. Gross wages (gross amounts accrued to employees) in 2023 consisted of: regularly paid amounts (each pay period) - 87.0%; amounts paid from time to time/regularly (bonuses, etc.) - 4.3%; amounts accrued for time not worked (holidays, etc.) - 8.2%; payments in kind - 0.5%. The highest salaries were in the following activities: information and communications - 32530.3 lei (2.7 times more than the national average); financial and insurance activities - 23424.2 lei (91.9% more than the national average); production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioners - 18276.8 lei (49.7% more than the national average). The lowest average monthly earnings were in the following activities: accommodation and food services - 7424.2 lei (39.2% less than the national average); agriculture, forestry and fisheries - 7952.0 lei (34.9% less than the national average); art, recreation and leisure - 8922.2 lei (26.9% less than the national average). Compared with 2022, average earnings increased in all types of economic activity (from 11.8% to 22.1%). The most significant growth was in the following types of activity: art, recreation and leisure - 22.1%; other service activities - 21.7%; transport and storage - 20.2%; real estate transactions - 19.8%; production and supply of electricity, heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning - 19.4%; education - 19.3%. The real wage growth index in 2023 compared with 2022 (calculated as the ratio of the growth index of the gross nominal average monthly wage to the consumer price index) was 103.1%; thus, real wage growth increased by 3.1%. In the budgetary sector, the average monthly accrued salary in 2023 amounted to 10484.3 lei, in the real sector - 12758.3 lei (21.7% more than in the budgetary sector). The average monthly accrued salary in the public sector amounted to 11881.1 lei, in other forms of ownership - 12436.2 lei (4.7% more than in the public sector). Depending on the size class of enterprises in the real sector, there are significant discrepancies in the average monthly accrued salary. In large enterprises (with more than 250 employees), the average salary was 1.7 times higher than in small enterprises (with 1-9 employees).
