In Moldova, a single sign prohibiting smoking will change, and the requirements of anti-tobacco legislation will be gradually tightened

At a meeting on Wednesday, the government approved a bill aimed at implementing a series of measures in the field of tobacco control. They are designed to warn consumers as much as possible about the risks of consuming tobacco and tobacco products, including smokeless ones. Thus, the single sign prohibiting smoking will change - it is proposed to use the option recommended by the World Health Organization, which depicts a lit cigarette and smokeless products (electronic cigarette, IQOS and hookah) in a red circle on a white background and crossed out. The health warning “Smoking this product is harmful to your health” must be printed on each package and on any outer packaging of nicotine-free e-cigarettes and nicotine-free refill bottles, as well as on each unit of package and on any outer packaging of herbal products. This change is necessary to ensure that smoking restrictions include not only the smoking of conventional cigarettes, but also other tobacco products or new related products using heating and nicotine delivery devices, the use of which is increasing. The bill also clarifies the list of places where smoking is prohibited and stipulates in more detail the responsibility of employers, owners, managers of public and workplaces for creating a smoke-free environment in workplaces and managed premises. The Tobacco Control Law is being supplemented with new concepts, and the requirements for reporting provided to the state by economic agents-producers or importers of tobacco and tobacco related products, devices and accessories for the consumption of these products, including smokeless ones, are supplemented. The responsibility of the competent authorities responsible for monitoring, identifying and considering offenses related to monitoring the implementation of anti-tobacco standards is also clarified. The new rules will be implemented within 12 months, with a number of exceptions. // 21.08.2024 — InfoMarket.
