Moldova: Industrial production volume increased by 0.7% in the first half of 2024 from the same period in 2023

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported this, without providing data in value terms. According to the agency, at the same time in June 2024, compared to June 2023, industrial production decreased by 2.3%. This was due to a decline in output in the extractive industry (-1%) and manufacturing (-3%), which led to a 2.7% drop in total industrial production. At the same time, the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning increased in June this year (+5.6%), which mitigated the 0.4% decline in total industrial production. Overall, in January-June 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, production volumes in the extractive industry grew by 4.7%, in enterprises producing electricity, heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning, the growth amounted to 4.2%, while in the processing industry the decline amounted to 0.2%. According to statistics, in 6 months of 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, growth occurred in the following segments: production of paper and paper products (+5.2%); production of chemicals and chemical products (+28.7%); pharmaceutical products and pharmaceuticals (+7%); production in the metallurgical industry (+45.2%); production of computers, electronic and optical products (+19.7%); electrical equipment (+7.6%); machinery and equipment (+6.2%); furniture (+26.2%); production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning (+4.2%). In the section repair, maintenance and installation of machinery and equipment, the growth amounted to 16.1%. At the same time, the production of: beverages (-3.8%); textile products (-2.1%); clothing (-15.3%); rubber and plastic products (-3.1%) decreased. In the section “tanning and finishing of leather; manufacture of suitcases, bags, saddlery; dressing and dyeing of fur” the decline amounted to 40.7%; in the section “wood processing and manufacture of wood and cork products, except furniture; manufacture of products made of straw and other plant materials for weaving” - a decline of 17.6%.
