
The IMF has lowered Moldova's GDP growth forecast for 2024 by 1.7 p.p. - from 4.3% to 2.6%, while in 2025 it expects economic growth at the level of 4.8%.
This follows from the new, April World Economic Outlook (WEO) published by the International Monetary Fund. At the end of the five-year planning horizon, in 2029, the Fund's experts forecast a 5% GDP growth in Moldova. At the same time, the IMF analysts kept the forecast of inflation in Moldova at the level of 5% for this year. According to the IMF experts' forecasts, the average annual inflation in Moldova in 2025 will also amount to 5%, as well as in 2029. In late 2024 and 2025, the inflation forecast is also kept at the level of 5%. It is assumed that Moldova's current account deficit in 2024 will amount to 11.5% of GDP, in 2025 - 10.3%, and in 2029 this indicator is expected to decrease to 8.3% of GDP. It should be noted that within the previous, October IMF World Economic Outlook (WEO), the Fund kept the forecast of Moldova's GDP growth in 2024 at the level of 4.3%. As InfoMarket reported earlier, the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization projects that Moldova's economy will grow by 2.5% in 2024, while in the next 3 years annual GDP growth will be 3%, 3.3% and 3.7%, respectively. According to the new forecast of macroeconomic indicators, Moldova's GDP in nominal terms is expected to amount to 328 billion lei in 2024, in 2025 - 358.7 billion lei, in 2026 - 392.8 billion lei, and in 2027 - 429.1 billion lei. The World Bank earlier lowered Moldova's GDP growth forecast for 2024 by 2 p.p. - from 4.2% to 2.2%, and for 2025 - by 0.2 p.p. - 4.1% to 3.9%. At the same time, the WB experts forecast 4.5% economic growth for Moldova in 2026.
