Moldova hopes to expand exports of fruits, vegetables, wine, textile products, footwear, and industrial goods to Romania.

This was stated by the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Dumitru Alaiba, co-chairman of the Moldovan-Romanian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation during its 12th planar meeting, held on April 9 in Bucharest. He noted that Romania ranks 1st among all Moldova’s trading partners in the world, accounting for 21.31% of our country’s total trade volume. “This demonstrates not only the strength of our bilateral relations, but also mutual trust in trade,” said Dumitru Alaiba. According to him, another important aspect is the strong presence of Romanian investments in Moldova. With 1,600 registered companies and share capital investments of approximately MDL 6.74 billion, Romania deservedly ranks 1st among the main investors in Moldova. “Romania has been and remains a strong supporter of Moldova, including during our European journey. 2023 was a decisive year for the EU accession process, and Romania was always there,” said Dumitru Alaiba. He invited Romanian companies from the IT sector to join the Moldova Innovation Technology Park, emphasizing that being a resident of this park provides a number of advantages, including a simplified taxation model, virtual work mode and the possibility of attracting foreign specialists. “There are already 27 companies with Romanian capital operating within the IT Park of Moldova, they are doing good business and are located close to home. This figure can certainly increase,” said Dumitru Alaiba. He noted that the Moldovan authorities highly appreciate the significant reduction in tariffs for two-way roaming between operators in Moldova and Romania, which are available to any citizen, which significantly increases the consumption of roaming services and communications between users of the two countries. “Of course, we still have a lot to do together. Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, our foreign trade is 100% dependent on Romania. All exports and imports of our country pass through Romania, and we are constantly discussing how to simplify border crossings,” emphasized the Moldovan Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization. // 09.04.2024 – InfoMarket
