The European Union must more actively support the modernization of Moldova and Ukraine to meet their EU accession criteria - Siegfried Muresan.
The co-chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on the Moldova-European Union Association stated this while speaking at a plenary meeting of the European Parliament. According to him, the European institutions should unite and send the following messages to the candidate countries of the European Union, such as Moldova and Ukraine: as soon as the accession criteria are met, the candidate countries will become members of the European Union; European institutions will be more involved in supporting these countries to modernize and meet accession criteria. Siegfried Muresan noted that negotiations on accession to the EU with Moldova and Ukraine are good for these candidate countries, but they are also good for the European Union, since they are the most effective tool for modernizing these countries, reforming them, bringing them closer to European standards. “This is not only in the interests of the candidate countries, but also in our interests. The safer our neighboring countries, the candidate countries, the safer we are within the EU's borders. That's why I say: more ambition, more participation on our part in supporting them.
