The US Treasury Department will provide the Moldovan Finance Ministry with new technical assistance and support to implement the initiated reforms.

This was stated during a meeting of Finance Minister Petru Rotaru with the Deputy Director of the Revenue Advisory Program of the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Technical Assistance, Parvina Shamsieva-Cohen, to discuss new technical assistance opportunities. According to the Ministry of Finance, during the discussions Petru Rotaru presented the priorities of the agency and prospects of development in various segments. The importance of consolidating budget revenues by intensifying anti-fraud activities and preventing tax evasion was separately emphasized. "We want open relations with taxpayers based on transparency, predictability and trust. Our goal is not to strengthen sanctions measures, but to promote the principle of voluntary compliance," the Finance Minister said. The need to digitize services provided by subordinate agencies was also highlighted to limit physical interaction between officials and taxpayers, which will help reduce corruption-related incidents. In this context, Parvina Shamsieva-Cohen reiterated the openness of the institution she represents, offering the necessary support to implement the initiated reforms through counseling and sharing best practices. It is worth mentioning that last week (October 16-20), a technical assistance mission on capacity building of the State Treasury within the Moldovan Ministry of Finance was carried out under the leadership of the US Treasury (Ministry of Finance) experts, who elaborated a number of recommendations on the treasury system to be included in the official report. // 24.10.2023 - InfoMarket.
