The United States has provided Moldova with about $2 billion over the past 32 years, while the amount of assistance to it after the beginning of the war in Ukraine amounted to about $700 million.

This was stated by US Ambassador to Moldova Kent D. Logsdon during the regular edition of the podcast "Give Sense to Money". He noted that the US assistance provided to Moldova covers a wide range of areas, including assistance to the energy sector, education and future technologies, support for Moldova's economy and refugee relief efforts, humanitarian aid, as well as support for the transformation of the military sphere for a modern army. "These are the areas in which we are working. And, of course, this money also supports the new national financial education campaign and the US government is proud to be part of this initiative," the US diplomat said. He noted that the US is encouraged by the initiative of the National Bank of Moldova to soon launch a large-scale financial education campaign through the USAID-funded project "Moldova Institutional and Structural Reforms Activity " (MISRA). This collaboration will also lead to the development of a National Financial Education Strategy. "We are very enthusiastic about this initiative because we believe it will help institutions at the national level, which we believe can benefit Moldova, and allow young people to get a real financial education from the very beginning. Now there are various great interactive ways to learn about money. It is not just about discussing a topic or reading a book. You can always learn in an interactive way. We believe that by collaborating with the NBM in launching this national financial education campaign, we will help all Moldovan citizens, especially young people, to learn how to manage money, how to use money, including online. Many financial transactions are now done online. This is doubly important because you need to use the internet and know how to manage money in your daily life. I think this is a great initiative," emphasized Kent D. Logsdon. He also noted that within the USAID Financial Sector Transparency Activity (FSTA), the National Bank of Moldova received a surveillance tool innovative for the whole region - an IT solution for monitoring transactions in order to detect potential money laundering attempts. "The software signals that this is a transaction to pay attention to: a warning signal, stop here, take a look at it! And a lot of times it's just a signal, but it allows a person to look at it and recognize potential suspicious activity in the system, and I mentioned money laundering before, and the system will really help with that," the U.S. diplomat said. // 19.10.2023 - InfoMarket.
