The European Commission decided to include the roaming service "at the national rate" in the Association Agreement between the EU and Moldova.

This was announced by the press service of the European Commission on September 1. After completing all the necessary stages, Moldovan citizens who visit the EU countries will be able to use mobile communication services on the same tariff conditions as at home, and EU citizens, in turn, will enjoy the same benefits when visiting Moldova. The inclusion of Moldova in the EU zone, which practices “roaming at national tariffs”, is one of the important actions of the EU-Moldova Priority Action Plan agreed in June 2023. This plan provides a roadmap for the full implementation of a deep and comprehensive free trade area between the EU and Moldova (DCFTA) and further integration of the country into the EU single market. Friday's decision follows a joint statement on May 31 by EU and Moldovan telecom operators on a voluntary reduction in roaming charges starting from January 1, 2024. This decision was made with the assistance of the European Commission, which will allow updating the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, including it contains the latest EU legislation in the field of telecommunications and postal services. According to the press service of the European Commission, in the future this proposal should be considered by the EU Council, and with its consent, the Moldova-EU Association Committee will make a joint decision on amending the annex to the Association Agreement to include the latest EU legislative acts in the field of telecommunications and postal services. After the final adaptation and enforcement of relevant EU legislation in Moldova, both parties will take steps to obtain permission for the practical use of "national tariff roaming".// 01.09.2023 — InfoMarket
