The IMF predicts Moldova's GDP growth in 2023 by 2%, and in 2024 - by 4.3%.
This follows from the new published, April review of the International Monetary Fund "World Economic Outlook"(WEO). At the same time, for 2028, the fund's experts predict Moldova's GDP growth by 5.1%. According to IMF forecasts, the average annual inflation in Moldova in 2023 will be 13.8%, in 2024 - 5%, and in 2028 - 5%. Herewith, inflation at the end of 2023 is projected at 8%, and at the end of 2024 - 5%. It is assumed that the current account deficit of Moldova in 2023 will be 12.8% of GDP, in 2024 - 11.6%, and in 2028 it is expected to decrease to 8.3% of GDP. It should be noted that in the October review of the IMF, it was said that the fund predicts the growth of Moldova's GDP in 2023 by 2.3%. As InfoMarket agency reported earlier, Moldova's GDP in 2022 amounted to 272.6 billion lei and decreased in real terms by 5.9% compared to 2021. IMF experts following the completion of the last mission to our country in mid-March this year noted that the Moldovan economy contracted sharply in 2022, reflecting the effects of the ongoing war in Ukraine, declining demand amid inflation and higher living costs, and weaker-than-expected economic performance in the agricultural sector. The IMF experts said at the time that a moderate economic recovery is expected in 2023, supported by a recovery in domestic demand and improved growth prospects in Moldova's trading partners. Earlier, the World Bank improved the forecast for Moldova's GDP growth in 2023 by 0.2 percentage points - from 1.6% to 1.8%, but kept the forecast for economic growth in 2024 at 4.2%. Meanwhile, the EBRD predicted earlier for 2023 a decline in Moldova's GDP by 1.3%, and for 2024 - an increase of 3.5%. // 11.04.2023 — InfoMarket.
