Temirzhol Zhondeu (Темиржол Жондеу) from Kazakhstan is successfully implementing a project to modernize the Bender-Causeni-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti railway section in Moldova.
This was reported by Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Liliia Dabija, who together with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport Mircea Pascaluta and other officials has inspected on site the works on restoration of the Bender-Causeni-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti railway segment. During the talks with the managers of the LLP Temirzhol Zhondeu Company, Lilia Dabija stressed the importance of the project and asked for efforts to speed up the planned works. The contractor informed the Minister that at the moment the current repair works are carried out, the contracts with material suppliers are signed and the equipment for the works is prepared. The project foresees overhaul of about 80 km and current repair of about 153 km of the way. After completion of works, passenger trains will run at a speed of about 120 kilometers per hour on the corresponding section of the railroad, and freight trains - at a speed of about 90 kilometers per hour. Also, Lilia Dabija visited locomotive depot in Basarabeasca, which operates main line locomotives, purchased with the help of the European Union and foreign partners. During the visit the minister got acquainted with the maintenance processes of the locomotives and discussed with the management of the state enterprise Railways of Moldova (CFM) the problems the enterprise is facing. The project to modernize the Bender-Causeni-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti railway segment is being implemented with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank. This is the busiest stretch of railroad in the country, providing transit cargo from Romania and Ukraine. As InfoMarket news agency previously reported, an open tender was organized for the reconstruction of the Bender-Causeni-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti railway section. In 2020, the EBRD and EIB recognized the company Temirzhol Jondeu, a member of Komkor Management group of companies (Komkor Management) as the winner. According to the contract terms, within 4 years the company will restore and modernize 233 km section of the railroad. After the project completion it will be possible to remove restrictions on weight and speed. Freight trains will increase the speed up to 90 km/h and passenger traffic - up to 120 km/h.
