Moldova’s Ministry of Finance to improve public finance management and reform the Financial Inspectorate in 2023.

This was stated by Minister of Finance Dumitru Budianschi during public consultations on the Government Action Plan for 2023 in public finance. Representatives of the associative sector, the business community and other interested persons took part in the discussions. Dumitru Budianschi noted that, in particular, the department he heads will focus this year on a stricter management of public finances. In this regard, among the priorities of the Ministry of Finance will be the adoption of the Public Finance Management Development Strategy for 2023-2030, as well as the reform of the Financial Inspectorate, which will promote more consistent budget planning and management of public funds. "The concept of the new Financial Inspectorate implies an institution with more analytical and controlling capacity to help us in budget planning: how public money was spent, how these decisions were justified and whether the right decisions were made," Dumitru Budianschi said. The head of the Ministry of Finance also said that the agency will strive to strengthen the tax base and protect those who pay taxes and fees, and not the other way around. Other initiatives envisaged in the government's 2023 Action Plan for Public Finance are aimed at changing fiscal and customs policies, improving the public procurement system, digital systems, and public sector wages, with most measures needed to harmonize national legislation with the European legislation. // 18.01.2023 - InfoMarket
