The volume of industrial production in Moldova decreased by 1% in January-August 2022, compared to the same period in 2021.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported this, without providing data in value terms. According to the agency, at the same time, in August 2022, the volume of industrial production increased by 2.4% compared to the same month of the previous year. In general, for 8 months in 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, production volumes in the mining industry increased by 2.1%, while in the processing industry they remained at the same level. According to NBS, food industry enterprises in January-August 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, increased production volumes by 35.6% in general. Beverage production increased by 5.3%, textile production decreased by 4.5%. Clothing output increased by 8.3%. Tanning and leather finishing; production of suitcases, bags, harness and saddlery; dressing and dyeing of fur increased by 8%, and wood processing and production of wood and cork products, except for furniture; production of straw products and other plant materials for weaving - 31.8%. Production of paper and paper products increased by 15.7%, and chemicals and chemical products - by 9.8%. The output of pharmaceutical products and drugs increased by 15.2%, and rubber and plastic products - by 12.1%. In the metallurgical industry, production decreased by 24%. The output of metal structures and products, except for machinery, equipment and installations, decreased by 13.1%, while in the section "production of computers, electronic and optical products" the indicator increased by 15.7%. The production of electrical equipment decreased by 59.2%, machinery and equipment - by 20.2%, and cars, trailers and semi-trailers - by 38.4%. Furniture output fell by 31.4%. In the repair, maintenance and installation of machinery and equipment section, the decline was 12.1%. Production and supply of electrical and thermal energy, gas, hot water decreased by 6.6%.
