Such preliminary data on the country's total debt was published by the National Bank of Moldova in the Balance of Payments for January-June 2022, noting that, at the same time, in relation to the country's gross domestic product, the country's total debt at the end of June 2022 amounted to 60.9 %, decreasing by 3.2 percentage points compared to the situation at the end of 2021. According to the NBM, the external debt of the public sector and state-guaranteed debt during January-June 2022 decreased by $21.4 million, or 0.8 % - from $2 billion 731 million (at the end of 2021) to $2 billion 709.6 million (at the end of the first half of 2022), amounting to 31.2% of the total debt. Herewith, non-guaranteed debt of the private sector decreased over the same period by $56.97 million, or by 0.9% - from $6 billion 034.61 million to $5 billion 977.64 million, and amounted to 68.8% of the total debt amounts. The overall decline in Moldova's external debt during the first half of 2022 was due to a reduction in the debt of the Central Bank on IMF loans by 20.05% - from $92.39 million to $73.87 million, debt under the section "Other sectors" - by 1.3% - from $3 billion 795.47 million to $3 billion 744.81 million, as well as debt under the section "Direct investments: inter-branch lending" - by 2.3% - from $1 billion 921.15 million to $1 billion 876.65 million. Meanwhile, the debt of the general government sector over the same period increased by 0.01% - from $2 billion 606.58 million (at the end of 2021) to $2 billion 606.87 million (at the end of the first half of 2022), commercial banks by 10% - from $350.02 million to $385.04 million. Long-term external debt at the end of the first half of 2022 amounted to $6 billion 173.26 million, having decreased by 1.4% compared to the situation at the end of 2021, when it was equal to $6 billion 261.51 million. Thus, short-term external debt amounted to $2 billion 513.98 million, having increased by 0.4% compared to the end of 2021 ($2 billion 504.1 million ). Their share in the total debt amounted to 71.1% and 28.9%, respectively.
