The EU will provide Moldova with a 15 million euros grant for the implementation of the EIB and EBRD co-financed Energy Efficiency in Moldova project, with a total value of 94 million euros.

The relevant grant agreement between the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova and European Investment Bank to implement the project was signed on Tuesday in Chisinau by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Andrei Spinu and head of EIB representative office in our country Alberto Carley in presence of head of EU delegation in Moldova Janis Mazeiks. In particular, the EBRD and EIB will provide Moldova with 30 million euros loans each for the implementation of the project, and the European Union will provide a grant of 15 million euros. The government's contribution to the project will amount to 19 million euros, so the project's total value will be 94 million euros. Andrei Spinu said it will be the largest energy efficiency project in Moldova and, on the other hand, a pilot project for such initiatives, which aims to implement a national energy efficiency program for Moldovan public buildings, implementing energy efficiency projects in schools, kindergartens and hospitals, which have low energy efficiency of buildings due to old construction and an acute lack of investment in energy efficiency improvements. According to Andrei Spinu, the Energy Efficiency in Moldova Project will launch a national program for energy rehabilitation of buildings throughout the country, with a focus on social facilities. The beneficiaries will be state institutions of national importance, in particular, national hospitals, as well as local and municipal institutions - kindergartens, schools, city and district hospitals. The expected effect is to reduce energy consumption and reach savings of almost 5 million euros per year. The list of final beneficiaries of the project will be established later, after the energy audit. Among the criteria for the selection of institutions are: the specific energy consumption per square meter, the energy saving potential, the degree of utilization of the building, etc. It is planned that at the initial stage, the energy audit will be conducted in 9 hospitals, to see their condition and determine the amount of investment. In particular, at the first stage, the energy audit will take place in the following institutions: the Institute of Emergency Care, Institute of Cardiology, Institute of Oncology, Institute of Mother and Child, Republican Clinical Hospital, Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Republican Center of Medical Diagnostics, Balti Clinical Hospital, Clinical Psychiatric Hospital (Codru). Within the second stage, the list of institutions that will undergo an energy audit will be expanded and, after the completion of the energy audit, the exact number of institutions whose energy efficiency will be improved under the aforementioned project will be established. Thanks to the implementation of the project, citizens will have access to better services, energy consumption and payments will be reduced, and the savings will be used for other development projects. // 13.09.2022 – InfoMarket
