Annual inflation in Moldova (for the last 12 months) reached 34.29% in August 2022, monthly inflation - 0.89%, and inflation in January-August 2022 - 22.93%.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported this, stating that last August monthly inflation amounted to 0.33%, annual inflation (for the last 12 months) - 4.64%, and in January-August 2021 - 4.29%. According to the NBS, consumer prices in August 2022, compared to July 2022, rose by an average of 0.89%, against the rise in food prices by 0.92%, non-food prices by 0.27%, as well as an increase in tariffs for services provided to the population by 1.75%. According to official statistics, in August 2022, compared to the previous month, prices of the following food items increased more significantly: eggs - by 17%, fruit - by 4.7%, sugar - by 4%, bread made of wheat flour - by 2.4%, milk and dairy products - 1.3%. At the same time, during the reporting period, prices of the following goods declined: vegetables - by 5.6% (including: tomatoes - 24%, root vegetables - 15.3%, garlic - 6%), potatoes - 4.4%, which in total contributed to the mitigation of the monthly increase in average consumer prices by about 0.26%. When it comes to non-food items, in August 2022, compared to the previous month, the prices of footwear and clothing rose more significantly - by 1.4% and 0.9%, respectively. At the same time, in the same period fuel became cheaper - by 11.3% (including gasoline - by 12.8% and diesel fuel - by 9.4%), which contributed to the mitigation of the monthly average consumption price increase by about 0.3%. Services provided to the population in August 2022, compared to July 2022, increased by an average of 1.75%, with a more pronounced increase in tariffs for housing and utilities services - by 3.4% (including gas services - by 15.2%), resulting in an increase in the average monthly consumer prices by more than 0.3%. According to the NBS, in January-August 2022 inflation amounted to 22.93%, with food products prices growing by 22.85%, non-food products prices by 16.57%, and tariffs for services provided to the population - by 32.53%.
