
The French Development Agency will complete an assessment of Moldova's electricity sector in January 2023 and will determine the investment needs.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spinu, announced this while speaking at the government meeting on Wednesday. He noted that earlier the state enterprise Moldelectrica signed an agreement with the French Development Agency (AFD) to conduct a study of the entire Moldovan electricity sector after synchronizing Moldelectrica's transport networks with the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity ENTSO-E. "This study is ongoing. The study should be completed in January 2023. The results of the study will be presented to everyone, not just the government. The needs for investments in the Moldovan power system and to what extent it meets EU standards will be announced. And afterwards, specific new investment projects in this sector can already be implemented," Andrei Spinu said. Earlier, it was reported that France will provide technical and financial assistance for modernization of the energy and railway sectors in Moldova worth over 60 million euros. A Memorandum-Agreement was signed with AFD on common interests of cooperation in the energy and railroad sectors through programs of technical and financial assistance. The document aims to support reforms in the railroads and modernization of the Moldovan energy system and provides technical assistance to SE Moldelectrica and SE Railways of Moldova in the amount of 800,000 euros. The money will be allocated by AFD on the basis of the signed memorandum.
