
For 8 months of 2022, with financial means from the Road Fund of Moldova, there have been performed 51% of the works on maintenance and repair of national roads for a total of 754 million lei.
The data were presented at a meeting of the Road Fund Council, chaired by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita. According to the report on the implementation of the Program for allocation of Road Fund resources, 29 million lei (96% of the planned amount) was allocated for current road maintenance. In June 2022 a procurement procedure was held for routine maintenance of public roads in Balti municipality, Falesti and Singerei districts for 2022-2025. At the same time, 108 million lei (69.5%) has been allocated for periodical maintenance of roads. Also 50.6 million lei (70.6%) was directed for road safety and 17.6 million lei (71%) for maintenance and current repairs. At the same time, 43.2 million lei (62%) was allocated for roads maintenance in winter, 149 million lei (28%) for reconstruction/repair of national roads, and 34 million lei (57%) was used for design works, evaluation of roads and land acquisition. 17.2 million lei (9.4%) was used to co-finance road rehabilitation projects in January-June 2022 and 32.2 million lei (46%) was used for public road management. For the creation of green areas along roads 1.9 million lei was used. The money is allocated for the work of planting trees and shrubs in road protection zones, planned for September-October. 2.1 million lei has been allocated for the implementation of modern technologies and quality control and 19.4 million lei has been spent to purchase machines and equipment (equipment of the testing laboratory of the State Roads Administration, traffic measurements on national roads, and expansion of the forecasting and control system). In addition, progress in improving 300 km of local roads was reported under a project supported by the World Bank since 2015. It was noted that all the works within this project will be completed by the end of 2022, except for Corridor 10 Costesti-Tipala, which will be completed in spring 2023. It is to be supplemented in the nearest future with 10 sections of roads identified by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on which a high number of deaths have been registered. Also, there were presented the HDM4 and PAVER road wear monitoring system project, which will allow developing a strategic vision on how to prioritize the road sectors based on economic and social criteria, including an estimation of the necessary costs. At the end of the meeting, the government approved a draft decision on the amendment of the program on allocation of funds from the Road Fund for national public roads for 2022, amounting to 325.5 million lei in addition to 1.48 billion lei, which will be used to build the access road and platforms for the Leova-Bumbata pontoon bridge and other infrastructure projects.
