Moldova signed an Agreement on participation in the new EU Research and Innovation Framework Horizon Europe until 2027; within the framework of the previous Horizon 2020 program, the country received 7.4 million euros since 2014.

The government reported this, noting that the agreement on Moldova's participation in the European Union's Framework Program for Research and Innovation Horizon Europe for 2021-2027. Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel, signed the agreement today in Brussels. As a result of the association, Moldova will receive the same participation rights as the EU countries, which will allow it to cooperate and participate as an equal partner in all tenders announced within the Horizon Europe framework. The program provides opportunities for the exchange of advanced European and international experience, attracting researchers, providing access to research infrastructure and solving the problems the modern society is facing. The objectives of the signed program are to promote research and innovation, to strengthen the link between research, innovation, education and other politicians. At the same time, the program aims to ensure complementarity with research and innovation policies and activities at the national, regional and European levels. The Horizon Europe Framework is based on three pillars that are complementary and interrelated. The first component supports scientific excellence in basic research and the development of young talent in the fields of research and innovation. The second component supports research aimed at solving social problems and industrial technologies in areas such as health, security, digital and basic universal technologies, climate, energy and mobility, food and natural resources, and also provides funding for the entire process of research and innovation; it is embedded in global challenges. The third component aims to foster innovation through the creation of the European Council for Innovation and Support for Research-Oriented Entrepreneurship. These three components are supported by activities to strengthen the European research area, namely through the components: increased participation, dissemination of best practices, reform and strengthening of the European research and innovation system. Moldova participates as an associated country and contributes to all parts of the Horizon Europe program. It should be noted that the participation of Moldova in the framework programs of the European Union is a way of internationalizing the national system of research and innovation, as well as ensuring the process of integration into the European research space. // 27.10.2021 - InfoMarket
