Moldova can purchase gas from European companies, which they prefer to store in Ukraine, but in this case, Transnistria will have to pay for the gas it receives.

Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita stated this while speaking on the air of the Moldova 1 TV channel. She noted that there is a liberalized gas market in Europe, and many European companies prefer to store their gas in Ukraine, where there are large gas storage facilities. “Thus, if Moldova buys gas from a European trader, it will be able to get access to natural gas from Ukraine. And we know the technical ways of transporting natural gas from Ukraine. But here comes the problem of payment for the use of natural gas, and if Moldova gets the opportunity to make these payments immediately or with certain guarantees, then the authorities of the left bank of the Dniester should participate in paying for the natural gas used,” said Natalia Gavrilita. She noted that during a telephone conversation with the head of the Transnistrian region Vadim Krasnoselsky, she discussed the current situation and possible risks in the gas sector. The parties also discussed the work of the Moldovan HPP, which supplies electricity to the right bank of the Dniester. “Krasnoselsky assured me that the terms of the contract for the supply of electricity will be respected. He noted that the Moldovan HPP partially switched to coal for electricity generation. I said that we are looking for alternatives. We discussed the need to provide citizens on both banks of the Dniester with gas,” said Natalia Gavrilita. She also promised to help solve the problem with the receipt of the money earned by the Sheriff Football team from UEFA. “We have certain rules in the banking system that must be followed. We will determine how this issue can be resolved so that the Sheriff team can use accounts in Moldovan lei,” said the head of the Moldovan government. // 25.10.2021 - InfoMarket.
