The Prosecutor General's Office will send to the Moldovan government a package of legislative initiatives to improve the effectiveness of the fight against corruption.

Prosecutor General Alexandru Stoianoglo said on Monday that this package of legislative initiatives was developed by the prosecutor's office several months ago, but in the context of political cycles, election campaigns and the absence of bodies with full decision-making powers, its nomination was postponed. Now the Prosecutor General's Office offers the new government 10 concrete steps to prevent and combat corruption: limiting the immunity of state officials; introduction of mechanisms for criminalizing members of collegial governing bodies for violations of the law; optimization of disciplinary proceedings against prosecutors; revision of the regulatory framework adopted during the occupied state; revision of the competences of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office; creation of specialized anti-corruption courts; expanding the powers of the prosecutor's office to conduct special investigative measures, including in cases of corruption; granting the prosecutor the right to apply a measure of procedural coercion - temporary suspension from office; administrative liability for corrupt acts with a low threshold; immediate execution of appeals of the Constitutional Court on crimes in the public sphere. As noted by Alexandru Stoianoglo, the implementation in practice of these legislative initiatives developed by the Prosecutor General's Office will improve the legal framework for preventing and combating corruption, including at a high level. Anyone can familiarize themselves with the initiatives of the Prosecutor General's Office on its website under the heading "Transparency", in the subheading "Transparency in decision-making." In the coming days, the Prosecutor General's Office will present this package of initiatives to the government for approval. The Prosecutor General noted that the real fight against corruption depends primarily on the will of the political class and is a complex of legislative, executive, educational and preventive actions and decisions. “Only through joint and consistent efforts, implementation of a set of measures and with the support of civil society can we count on cardinal changes in the field of combating corruption,” said Alexandru Stoianoglo. He noted that everything that happens in the field of combating corruption is the result of inaction over the past 10 years of instruments previously created with the support of development partners and operating in democracies.// 23.08.2021- InfoMarket.
