Starting in 2026, Moldova will increase the efficiency of tax administration for the production and import of cigarettes longer than 70 mm
The State Tax Service reminded that for filtered and non-filtered cigarettes containing tobacco, item 240220, one cigarette unit is considered as: one cigarette if, excluding the filter or mouthpiece, its length does not exceed 8 cm; two cigarettes if, excluding the filter or mouthpiece, its length exceeds 8 cm but does not exceed 11 cm; three cigarettes if, excluding the filter or mouthpiece, its length exceeds 11 cm but does not exceed 14 cm; and so on, in 3 cm increments. This change is aimed at increasing the efficiency of tax administration and preventing damage to the budget in cases of production or import of cigarettes longer than 70 mm. Furthermore, the reference retail price of cigarettes and cigarillos has increased: for a pack containing 20 cigarettes or cigarillos, the reference price is 46.59 lei. This is due, in part, to an increase in excise taxes on tobacco and related products: effective January 1, 2026, excise taxes will increase by 5% to 15% compared to the previous year, depending on the product category.// 02.02.2026 – InfoMarket.
