Moldova and the European Union will extend the liberalized regime for road freight transport until March 31, 2027

As reported by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, this was an important topic at the third meeting of the EU-Moldova High Level Dialogue on Transport, held in Brussels. During the meeting, our country's progress in modernizing the industry and bringing legislation into line with European standards was assessed. The Moldovan delegation, led by Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea, discussed the development of road, rail, air, and maritime transport with representatives of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), led by Magda Kopczyńska. An important topic was the extension of the agreement between the EU and Moldova on road freight transport until March 31, 2027, which maintains a liberalized regime for Moldovan carriers and facilitates trade with the European market. Strategic projects in the railway sector were also noted, including the electrification of the Iasi-Ungheni line, the resumption of operations on the Cantemir-Falciu section after 32 years of inactivity, and the modernization of the Cahul-Giurgiulesti line. As noted, in air transport, passenger traffic at Chisinau Airport exceeded 6 million passengers in 2025, an increase of almost 47% compared to the previous year. At the same time, Moldova is moving forward with the harmonization of its legislation with European legislation. Fifty-three European documents have already been implemented, and another 108 are in the active development stage. “The dialogue confirms that the European Union remains Moldova's strategic partner in the modernization of transport infrastructure and integration into European networks,” emphasized the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development. // 09.03.2026 - InfoMarket
