This was stated by Finance Minister Victoria Belous, speaking at the opening of the seminar "VAT in the context of Moldova's preparation for accession to the EU", organized by the European Business Association (EBA Moldova). According to the Finance Ministry, in her speech, the head of the financial department emphasized the importance of a modern, clear and predictable tax framework in the process of European integration. According to her, the transposition of the EU VAT directive, including provisions on preferential rates, is important for Moldova's rapprochement with the EU. "We want to have a tax system that stimulates investment and supports sustainable economic development. With the support of external partners and the team of the Finance Ministry, we will ensure a gradual and balanced transposition, avoiding imbalances for the business environment," said Victoria Belous. She also thanked the EBA team for the continuous support provided to the Ministry of Finance in the European integration process, including by facilitating dialogue with the business environment and sharing best practices. The discussions addressed the main aspects related to the harmonization of the legislative framework with the EU VAT directive, with an emphasis on the practical implications for economic agents. The intra-community transactions and services regime, the challenges encountered during the adaptation process and possible solutions to ensure an effective transition were also discussed.
