In Moldova, the Tax Lottery competition has been canceled, as it has lost its relevance and has achieved its goals

The corresponding decision was approved by the government at a meeting on Wednesday. In particular, the regulatory framework governing the Tax Lottery competition was canceled - the Resolution on the approval of the Regulation on the Tax Lottery competition. The department believes that continuing the competition in its current form is no longer relevant, since the rules for its conduct do not fully meet the needs and the latest technological developments, especially taking into account the implementation and expansion of the MEV system and the launch of the MIA system. At the same time, the Tax Lottery competition has achieved its goals of increasing the use of bank card payments and reducing cash transactions. Thus, during the tax lottery, the number of transactions tripled - from 48.4 million in 2020 to 149.5 million in 2024, and their volume increased - from 14.3 billion to 43.2 billion lei. The administrative resources for the lottery are planned to be redirected to other initiatives to modernize and digitalize taxation. As a reminder, the Tax Lottery was launched in 2020 to stimulate electronic payments and combat the shadow economy through cash transactions. It consisted of 4 regular stages with a prize of 1,000 lei and 2 special stages for the winter and Easter holidays, with a prize of 1,500 lei. All monetary transactions made by adult citizens using bank cards automatically participated in the lottery.// 05.02.2025 — InfoMarket
