This was reported by the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, which noted that, in particular, among independent entrepreneurs (freelancers), there are people engaged in the repair and maintenance of aircraft and spacecraft, coin minting, musical instrument making, jewelry making, and the production of games and toys. In total, independent entrepreneurs can operate in more than 40 fields. The independent entrepreneur regime, also known as the freelancer regime, was introduced in Moldova on January 1, 2026. This measure aims to simplify the process by which citizens can start and conduct economic activities, reducing administrative procedures and interactions with government agencies. Registration as an independent entrepreneur is carried out online through the MPass system using an electronic signature. After completing the registration process, a self-employed entrepreneur can immediately begin operations and earn income without issuing invoices, without tax receipts, and without maintaining accounting records, provided that payments are made using non-cash payment methods. However, independent entrepreneurs are required to pay a flat tax of 15% on income up to 1.2 million lei per year and 35% on the portion exceeding that threshold. Freelancers are not required to file tax or statistical reports in the course of their activities. // 08.09.2026 — InfoMarket.
