According to the National Bank's press office, the bank's governor, Anca Dragu, held a working meeting with representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The EBRD delegation was led by Arvid Tuerkner, Managing Director for Moldova and Ukraine, who was accompanied by Giuseppe Grimaldi, Head of the EBRD's Representative Office in Moldova. The meeting focused on the institutions' current cooperation and shared priorities for the near future, given that Moldova's banking sector remains stable, well-capitalized, and characterized by significant levels of liquidity and an optimal risk profile. A separate topic of discussion was the BNM's application for the European Banking Authority (EBA) to recognize the equivalence of Moldova's prudential banking system with that of the European Union. Obtaining such recognition will confirm the banking regulation and supervision system's level of compliance with European requirements. "The EBRD's support is important for the development of the financial sector and the strengthening of Moldova's European course. The stability of the banking system, as confirmed in part by assessments from international rating agencies, helps build investor confidence. Alignment with European standards and the strengthening of financial stability remain our fundamental priorities. Despite external challenges, we are maintaining a stable financial sector and are firmly committed to continuing reforms to align our legislation with EU law," stated Anca Dragu. It is worth noting that the EBRD is one of Moldova's key development partners. To date, the bank has financed 199 projects in the country with a total investment of over 3 billion euros. The EBRD's current portfolio in Moldova includes 76 active projects worth approximately 1.33 billion euros, which contribute to infrastructure development, strengthening energy security, and supporting the private sector, reaffirming the institution's role as a strategic partner in the country's economic development. // 18.09.2026 — InfoMarket.
