Finance Minister Victoria Belous made these clarifications after reports began circulating in the public sphere suggesting that the government allegedly intended to tax inheritances received by Moldovan citizens living abroad. The Minister of Finance emphasized that the issue concerns Moldovan citizenship, not place of residence: whether Moldovan citizens live in the country or abroad, in both cases, the property they inherit is not subject to taxation. She noted that, according to Article 20, paragraph (i) of the Tax Code, property received by individuals who are Moldovan citizens through a gift or inheritance is not subject to tax. According to the minister, the changes proposed in the draft tax policy concern foreign citizens who do not reside in Moldova for 183 days or more per year and receive an inheritance in Moldova. In their case, it is proposed that income received in the form of an inheritance be subject to taxation. // 13.08.2026 — InfoMarket
